Course details

Students will be introduced to foundational aspects of the language of modern music. Modern harmony, melody, music structures, genre specific devices and stylistic idioms are all studied with weight given to musicianship and practical applications as well as theoretical and analytical work. In the literacy skills area the course aims to enable students to "hear what they see" and "write what they hear". Students are also required to develop musical reproduction skills (vocal). In the theory area a paradigm for understanding the language of modern music is presented with some reference to the foundation of western harmony.
