INDG19018 Indigenous Australians and Popular Culture

Course details

Through a study of the role Indigenous Australians play in the production of sport, film, dance, music, television, radio, advertising and marketing, students will be able to demonstrate a knowledge of popular culture produced by Indigenous Australians. Students will be able to apply critical analysis to a range of Indigenous popular culture texts and media and to articulate various processes used in their production. Students will examine a diverse range of Indigenous texts, artefacts and figureheads, with a particular focus on the ways in which media technology has been used in the production, dissemination and promotion of these Indigenous forms of Australian popular culture. Students then analyse these important Indigenous aspects of Australian popular culture and demonstrate their understanding of the processes involved in their acceptance, recognition and success. Handbook note: This course is not available to students who have taken CULT12003 Race Issues and Indigenous media.
