PHYS13194 Modern Optics

Course details

This course first considers the physical and physiological limitations of the human eye as an imaging system. Fourier methods are then introduced leading to a study of diffraction patterns, imaging systems and image analysis.
The basic theory of lasers and laser light is then discussed. The application of lasers to topics such as holography, interferometry, and instrumentation is considered as are the properties of optical fibres and their use in optical imaging systems..
