Course details
NURS12141 Nursing in a Medical Environment introduces nursing students to an understanding of the dimensions of nursing in an acute medical environment, providing care to individuals across the lifespan. In particular students will have the opportunity to examine the principles and practices for facilitating the care of clients experiencing medical conditions resulting from compromised body systems. Incorporated into this course will be further development of the skills of health assessment, clinical decision making and discharge planning. Students will consolidate theoretical knowledge through participation in laboratory based sessions and through clinical experience in acute medical wards under the guidance of clinical educators. Students may be required to undertake up to 24 days supervised clinical practice as a component of the course. It is a requirement of this course to have access to the CQU website and Internet. Students may study this course in either internal or flex mode. For students who elect to study the course in flex mode they will be required to attend a 12 hour residential school. There will be no out-of-town clinical placements for students situated in Bundaberg, Mackay and Rockhampton unless specifically requested by the student. This is subject to the availability of the out-of-town clinical placements. For students studying the program externally the opportunity for clinical placements will be in major regional centres and rural areas. Clinical placements will not be available in the Brisbane metropolitan area.
