Course details
This course should introduce students to foundational nursing care in order to prepare them for safe nursing practice at a beginning level in the Australian clinical context. On completion of this course student should be able to describe the processes for basic assessment including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, temperature, ward urinalysis and integumentary status. Students should also be able to discuss process of risk assessment and prevention of complications, specific to falls manual handling and pressure ulcers, and basic infection control principles and strategies needed to prevent the transmission of infection between nurse and client. Nursing interventions to assist clients in the activities of their daily lives are practised including the holistic approach (physical, mental and social) in interacting with clients. Participation in the clinical laboratory sessions is compulsory for internal students and participation in the online tutorial and residential school is compulsory for flex students.
