Course details
This course builds on foundational nursing skills to enhance and enable students to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes required when providing acute nursing management for clients within the acute nursing environment. Students should demonstrate the ability to assess, plan, implement, evaluate and accurately document nursing management for the acute client, through assessment and the application of critical thinking incorporating evidence based practice. Students should also be able to critically examine the relationship between physical, mental and social health in the acute client and the implementation of infection control principles in the acute clinical environments. Students should be able to demonstrate the ability to provide appropriate pre, intra and post care of clients undergoing procedures or theatre and to recognises and deal with any potential post procedure complications for the individual client. Finally this course should enable the student to explain the discharge planning process of the acute client that both empowers the client and meets their physical and mental health needs.
Participation in compulsory clinical placement should provide students with a suitable learning environment to meet the course objectives. Participation in the clinical laboratory sessions is compulsory for internal students and participation in the residential school is compulsory for flex students.
