ENEG12001 Materials & Processes

Course details

This course provides students with opportunities to study how engineers understand, select and use materials, and develop engineering processes to suit design and manufacturing requirements. Course topics include materials processing, structure, properties and performance of engineering materials. The course introduces students to fabrication, machining and modification of materials properties and to analysis modes of failure. Students solve problems involving materials and processes through the synergistic intermixing of scientific knowledge gained from reading and research, collaborative teamwork and experiments. Students demonstrate effective development and use of professional self and team management and communication skills in team interactions and project work and in the preparation technical reports, designs and presentations. This provides students with a solid foundation on which to make decisions about selection, processing and fabrication of materials for engineering applications.


Distance education (FLEX) students will be required to attend a residential school. They are also required to have access to a computer and to make frequent use of the Internet.
