Course details
Increasing emphasis is placed on students to nurture more advanced skills in 'freedom' as acquired through personal connection, motivation and the formation of ideas, thoughts and images as a means to mould the actor's abilities within a range of styles and demands. Stage combat skills are introduced focused primarily on safe practices in executing unarmed techniques in punching, kicking, holding and other commonly required staged physical contact illusions. Students will also be introduced to theatrical adaptations of various forms of fencing as well as the use of other weapons commonly required in stage productions. These skills will be primarily employed in Shakespearean acting workshops designed to develop period style and character refinement of the voice, and to inform the vocal-emotional connection needed to make textual meaning explicit. Soliloquy, duologue and multi-character scene study will be covered.
