Course details
This course explores cultural influences on childbearing and childrearing, and the ability of midwifery practice and maternity services to meet cultural needs. A focus upon Australian Indigenous women and their birthing practices is undertaken to examine their effects on current birth practices. The course builds on the concepts of woman-centered care in order to determine and meet the needs of childbearing women from diverse cultures groups in order to provide culturally safe and competent care. There is a compulsory 5 day residential school attached to this course.
