Course details

For students with some dance experience: this course provides, through both cultural and historical contexts, an introduction to Contemporary Dance and choreography categories. Through learning the vocabulary, principles and elements of various contemporary dance styles, students should begin to acquire an awareness of body kinesiology expressed through axial motions (twist, flex, stretch, bend and rise/fall as simple examples), increased technical facility, how expressiveness is formed within the personal dance space and the demands that creativity places on the acquisition of technical facility.
