Course details
This course is a discursive study of the evolution of musical theatre and, in particular, of the forms and styles of performance from the early 20th Century through to current productions. Students should be able to analysis historical critical reception as placed in the context of convergent media ownership and the re-positioning of musical theatre as corporative product. Students will, further, be introduced to the complex and sometimes difficult relationship that exists today between residency theatre (also referred to as regional theatre) and commercial theatre producers. Within this context students should be able analyse and respond to financial models which include enhancement, four-wall deals and other variations in ownership and production responsibilities.
Students will be required to attend workshops in order to complete the requirements of the course.
