JALC11003 Japan and its Culture

Course details

This course aims to develop LOTE proficiency through content-based learning. While learning contents of various aspects of Japanese people and culture in the target language, students are expected both to develop further understanding of the cultural knowledge and to enhance their language proficiency. Students are encouraged to take as much responsibility for their own LOTE learning as possible so that learning becomes increasingly self-directed. The course employs specialised immersion techniques and incorporates the four skill areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Second language learning through immersion education is seen to promote increased levels of acquisition and to facilitate higher proficiency levels than traditional approaches to language learning. (Students who have completed JALC10001 should not enrol in this course)
