COMM12020 Communication in the Digital Age

This course introduces students to the foundations of communication in a digital context. The emphasis is on group communication; using digital communication tools as the primary means of ensuring a common understanding of meaning between audiences. The course explores current and emerging theories of human communication; the development of Internet and digital technologies and their impact on individuals, organisations, cultures, and communication. Electronic tutorials, on-line discussion groups (using MSN Messenger), blogs and the WWW are used to ensure students have practical experience, as well as theoretical understanding, of digital communication methodologies.
