EDEC11020 Images of Childhood

Course details

Childhood as a social construction is the focus of this course. Drawing on material such as posters, cards, photographs and art works, both contemporary and historical, images and representations of children and childhood are examined and analysed from a socially critical perspective. The course analyses how this material positions children, what it says about society's attitude to children and how it might influence and reflect the laws and policy that affect children. The UN Convention of the Rights of the Child is included in this analysis.
