Course details
This course introduces students to underground geotechnical issues in relation to mining subsidence, pillar design, ground support and pillar extraction methods. It outlines the practice of mining under surface structures, bodies of water and aquifers. Students are expected to develop an understanding of and a capability in surface mine design techniques, production scheduling and dump planning. Concepts are introduced in relation to pit stability, which is also considered in relation to dewatering bore holes, sumps and pumping operations.
