Career Opportunities
A wide scope of employment possibilities is available for today’s social worker in a rapidly expanding profession. Social workers are employed by family service centres, hospitals, correctional facilities, Indigenous facilities, education settings, community health centres, non-government welfare agencies, metal health services and the private practice. Work can also be found around palliative care programs, disability programs, the elderly and chronically ill.
Social workers are involved in a diverse range of activities including counselling, needs assessment, community development, group work, policy formation, research and administration.
With a social work qualification, it is possible to work in many different fields including: public service departments, community health centres, hospitals, local government authorities, non-government welfare agencies, industrial environments and the private practice.
About Social Sciences
Social sciences is the scientific study of human society, of both individuals and their relationships within society. Social science studies at CQU include psychology, sociology, social work and welfare studies.
Learn about human development, including memory and thought, personality, abnormal behaviour, and social and cultural influences on behaviour; methods of social research, community analysis, power and politics, health and medical sociology, and rural sociology; and counseling and community work.
