Course details
As a result of advances in computing and telecommunications technology, students need to prepare for the introduction and use of electronic health records. This requires the structuring, organisation, coding and classification of all data elements and terms used within the health sector. Much has been accomplished to date by the World Health Organisation, the National Library of Medicine (USA) and various Standards organisations world-wide. The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare has produced a National Health Data Dictionary, and Health Information Agreements have been signed between the Commonwealth, State and Territory Governments. Research efforts in this field are prolific. Topics covered will include terminology and coding systems, privacy, security, access, ownership and management of health related information.
