Course details
This Level 1stand-alone course has been specially designed to meet the needs of Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Learning Management (Secondary) and BLM (Secondary) students. CULT11017 Society & Environment serves as an intellectual foundation for the subsequent teaching of Studies of Society and Environment (SOSE) in secondary schools and covers a range of topics reflective of the higher-level core learning outcomes of the SOSE curriculum. The course content provides a broad understanding of the historical, geographical, social, cultural, political and legal dimensions of, and processes involved in, people's interactions with each other and with the natural environment. It looks at both contemporary Australia and other selected societies, past and present. The content and assessment schedule is designed to develop intellectual, critical and communication skills. The course is available internally and in the flexible mode and is also available to students in other programs wishing to acquire a survey knowledge of human culture and society as well as to develop those skills. As this course contains online components, students enrolling in CULT11017 require access to a computer with internet and email capabilities. CQU student computer labs provide these facilities while the Queensland Learning Network can also provide access for distance education students in most parts of the state.
