EDED20469 Education Theories & Creative Arts

Course details

This course explores concepts of education from 5th century Greece to the contemporary era that underpin western educational ideals. The course is problem-solving based and aims to encourage students to explore the antecedent philosophies, practices and pedagogies of contemporary western education and thereby posit future trends that may emerge in education for the global knowledge economy. By the conclusion of the course, students will have analysed the foundations of western educational thought and practice and will then apply the knowledge gained to their Professional Education Research Project.

The course aims to provide a solid reference base in the philosophies of professional education thought, to develop critical and creative thinking appropriate for the attainment of the Masters degree, and to apply that thinking to the resolution of complex problems concerning the role of the professional educator.
