Course details

NURS12142 Nursing in a Surgical Environment introduces concepts of surgical nursing practice providing an opportunity to meet the particular needs of clients undergoing surgical interventions. The course will extend the skills gained in holistic assessment and require application of prior learning to achieve theory and practice integration relevant to the perioperative experiences of clients of all ages. Simulated laboratory learning will prepare students for clinical experience. Integration of evidence based practice theories, documentation and discharge planning will also be a focus of this course. Students may be required to undertake up to 24 days supervised clinical practice as a component of the course. It is a requirement of this course to have access to the CQU website and Internet. Students may study this course in either internal or flex mode. For students who elect to study the course in flex mode they will be required to attend a 12 hour residential school. There will be no out-of-town clinical placements for students situated in Bundaberg, Mackay and Rockhampton unless specifically requested by the student. This is subject to the availability of the out-of-town clinical placements. For students studying the program externally the opportunity for clinical placements will be in major regional centres and rural areas.
