Course details
This course aims to enable research students in the Faculty of Business and Law to select and employ procedures for the collection, processing, analysis and interpretation of information that are appropriate to their research problems. After a brief review of basic statistical terms and concepts, the course will concentrate on developing an understanding of univariate, bivariate and multivariate analytical techniques including correlation, regression, multiple regression, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, multiple discriminant analysis and multivariate analysis of variance. In addition to the theoretical discussions, the course will enable research students to use the relevant statistical packages - especially the Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) - for data processing and analysis. This course covers many analytical techniques. Hence, it should be regarded as an introduction and students are encouraged to undertake further self-directed study of the analytical techniques that they select for their specific research projects.
