NURS12143 Family and Community Health

Course details

NURS12143 Family & Community Health explores the health needs of individuals and families, across the lifespan. In particular, vulnerable and at risk groups and families within society will be identified in relation to the health challenges that they face. Further, this course will address the role of agencies and services in supporting the health needs of individuals and families within the community environment. The philosophy and principles of primary health care with particular emphasis on the role of therapeutic communication strategies that empower individuals and families in community settings, will underpin this course. Students may be required to undertake up to 24 days supervised clinical practice as a component of the course. It is a requirement of this course to have access to the CQU website and Internet.Students may study this course in either internal or flex mode. For students who elect to study the course in flex mode they will be required to attend a 12 hour residential school. There will be no out-of-town clinical placements for students situated in Bundaberg, Mackay and Rockhampton unless specifically requested by the student. This is subject to the availability of the out-of-town clinical placements. For students studying the program externally the opportunity for clinical placements will be in major regional centres and rural areas. Clinical placements will not be available in the Brisbane metropolitan area.
