Course details
Introduction to Public Relations will give students an understanding of the role of Public Relations (PR) professionals through an analysis of the nature of public relations and its historical development in Australia. The course will provide an understanding of publics and audiences as they relate to the public relations professional. Various public relations theories present the student with a sound understanding of the purpose and direction of public relations, enabling them to effectively link strategy with theory. The importance of research, monitoring and evaluation of public relations strategies will be shown through an analysis of public relations case studies. Ethics and professionalism are an important focus of the public relations professional so these concepts will be both taught and practiced throughout the course.
This course is a prerequisite for COMM 12108 Advanced Public Relations.
