Course details

This course examines the capacity design principle and differentiates this approach from other limit state approaches, relate the importance of BMD, SFD and AFD to structural design, identifies the various mode of failure of structural components made of concrete and steel under compression, tension, bending, moment and shear. The course aims to translate the student's knowledge on civil engineering materials and mechanics into the principle of structural design. Students examine the principal of beam design in general terms and apply it to reinforced concrete and steel designs.
