MGMT19124 Strategic and Tactical Procurement

Course details

This course is an advanced course for those wishing to specialise in procurement and supply, supply chain management, and logistics. It would also be appropriate for those interested in a career in operations management where, for example, manufacturing is important. As procurement and supply practices have become more complex and sophisticated, procurement management has also become more complex and difficult. The options available in terms of ways and means of procuring supply to an organisation have grown dramatically over the last 10 to 20 years. The growth in options has been accelerating in more recent times with such influences as e-commerce, globalisation, relationship marketing, and organisational restructuring. In order to consider the options available and to select appropriate options for particular organisations in particular circumstances, considerable expertise is necessary. This course aims to develop the knowledge of the available options, evaluating their merits and methods to the ability to select the appropriate option. At the highest level these will be strategic decisions, and at the operational level these will be tactical decisions. Available research will be utilised, and the evaluation and use of the research will be exercised. Case studies will be used extensively with students in the development and extension of these materials as new information comes to hand. This will be an exciting and dynamic course for those wishing to be involved in modern procurement and supply.
