EDED20452 Prof Studies Project III Language Learning

Course details

This course aims to introduce the theorectical foundations and practical applications of effective second language teaching. PSP III Language Learning aims to take the learner on a journey through the labyrinth of evolving theories about language and language pedagogy while at the same time challenging their own values, attitudes and beliefs about what it means to 'know' a language. "As soon as we try to learn a language we come up against the most fundamental questions about the nature of language: What is language? How should we set about learning a language? What is the best way of dividing up this enormous task and of arranging the various features which we recognise as parts of the language?" (Stern 1984).
