Course details
School-based assessment practices, evaluation and curriculum planning and their theoretical underpinnings are examined as well as a range of contemporary issues in school education. Materials collected from and experiences undertaken in schools will provide both individual and collective opportunities to analyse and reflect upon current school practices and trends. A major focus in the course is on practices in upper secondary schooling and the role of the Board of Senior Secondary School Studies in developing syllabuses, Study Area Specifications, accreditation and certification. The Student Education Profile is an important outcome of secondary school education and it is examined with particular attention given to the Queensland Core Skills Test. New initiatives in the convergence of general and vocational education are examined. The course also contributes to students' preparation for fieldwork.
