Course details
The Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector is constantly undergoing change to the extent where it is now a necessity in order to keep up you need to be able to comprehend the history , the politics and the future through what is often referred to in the VET sector as keeping current.
With growth and change in this dynamic sector comes tensions. It is these tensions that drive the VET sector. Such as the interests of state and federal governments, the interests of industry and the unions. VET for these competitors means jobs and expenditure, therefore it will continue to be a ‘political animal’ as long as the interests of these stakeholders continue to have a say in the VET sector.
This course is intended to provide a basic understanding of the VET sector and the competing interests of the stakeholders involved, so that students will be able to better understand future developments that will affect them and their students.
Module 1: Provides and in depth look at the VET sector and how it has evolved. It provides insight into the large scale reform over the last 30 years and the more recent developments such as VET in schools and state/ national training reform initiatives national.
Module 2: Focuses on Curriculum issues, such as the nature of Competency Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) globally and Training Packages in Australia. This module investigates why and how Training Packages are developed along with the theoretical underpinnings from a range of VET educationalists.
Module 3: Explores the implications of VET policy and curriculum for teachers and trainers in VET. It attempts to understand the needs of the teachers and trainers delivering VET today in a range of diverse educational settings.
