University scholarships and bursaries
Queensland Country Women's Association, Central Highlands Division Bursary - $500
The annual bursary of $500 will be a once only award to a first year full-time Central Queensland University student who will be continuing full-time study in a program with Central Queensland University. Students enrolled in any program offered by Central Queensland University whose permanent home address is in the Central Highlands of Central Queensland are eligible to apply for the bursary.
Selection will be based on outstanding academic performance, in conjunction with a 500 word supporting statement. For further details please contact student_finance@cqu.edu.au.
Chancellor Stan Jones Scholarship - $2000
The Chancellor Stan Jones Scholarship is a university award that was established in 2004 in honour of the former Chancellor, Hon Justice Stan Jones, to provide recognition of outstanding academic achievement and to support further higher degree studies. The Scholarship will be awarded on an annual basis to the recipient of the University Medal where the recipient will be continuing on to further higher degree study. It comprises a Certificate together with a monetary payment of $2000.
Queensland Alumina Limited Scholarship - $5000
The QAL Scholar will receive $5000 per year for the duration of their program. The scholarship is awarded to a full-time first year student who proceeded from Year 12 in the previous year, whose home is in the Port Curtis region (Gladstone City, Calliope and Miriam Vale Shires), and who is studying Science, Business, Engineering or Informatics at CQU. Australian South Sea Islander Community Foundation Scholarships - two $5000 scholarships
The Australian South Sea Islander Scholarship Award winner will receive a yearly contribution of $5000 towards their education and living expenses while studying. The scholarship is awarded to an on-campus CQU student of Australian South Sea Islander descent who is motivated to study and complete their initial undergraduate degree. Jessie Mary Vasey Memorial Bursary - $400
The annual bursary of $400 awarded by the Bundaberg sub-branch of the War Widow's Guild of Australia will be a once only award to a Central Queensland University nursing student enrolled at the Bundaberg campus and who will be continuing full-time study in the nursing program on CQU's Bundaberg campus. Only a student who is a descendant of a war widow or a returned serviceperson is eligible to apply. Past recipients will be excluded.
Selection will also be based on outstanding academic performance in conjunction with a 500 word supporting eligibility statement. For further details please contact the Faculty Secretary on 07 4150 7051.
James Goldston Faculty of Engineering and Physical Systems Scholarships
Co-operative Engineering Scholarships - $1000
A total of ten (10) scholarships will be awarded annually to students who enrol in the Bachelor of Engineering Co-operative program and who are currently completing Year 12.
The selection criteria for the scholarships will include:
- Criteria 1: a minimum achievement in English, Maths B and one of Maths C or Physics in the Senior Certificate.
- Criteria 2: an aptitude for engineering practice skills including teamwork, problem solving and communications as judged by a selection panel.

Queensland Rail Women in Engineering Scholarship - $10 000
Queensland Rail has sponsored five scholarships to help in the recruitment and retention of female students in the Bachelor of Engineering program. Each scholarship will provide support of $5000 per annum for years 3 and 4 of the student's program.
A winner is chosen annually and will be selected based on academic merit in the first two (2) years of the Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Engineering (Co-op) program and on submission of a one page summary expressing interest in the rail industry.
The scholarship will be paid in two (2) instalments for the third and fourth years of the program, with payment in the fourth year being dependent upon the student passing all third year courses. For further details please contact the Faculty on engineering-enquiries@cqu.edu.au.
Faculty of Informatics and Communications Postgraduate and Undergraduate Scholarships
There will be a total of 15 Faculty scholarships offered for new and continuing students undertaking studies in 2005. The scholarships will be valued at $2000 each, with the exceptions of the Professor John D. Smith Undergraduate and Postgraduate Memorial Scholarships, which are valued at $5000 each. Capricornia College awards
Chancellor's Medal - $350, University/College Medal, letter of Award and name recorded on Honours Board
The award is offered annually to a current Member of College in recognition of their leadership and community service achievements throughout the year within the College, the University and the community of Rockhampton.
Vice-Chancellor's Academic Award - $500, letter of award and name recorded on Honours Board
The award is offered annually to a current Member of College who was resident in the College for at least the previous two terms and achieved the highest grade point average during this time (whilst studying the equivalent of the full time load).
Capricornia College Scholarships - 50% reduction in residential fees
Awarded to a Member of Capricornia College who is a resident for the entire academic year and achieves a high level of balance and attainment in the following three areas:- (1) academic achievement (ie. overall academic achievement and/or personal level improvement); (2) leadership (ie. demonstration of initiative, motivation and encouragement in clubs, groups and/or associations within the College); (3) participation (ie. involvement with College activities, functions and projects).
Capricornia College/Faculty Award - $350
An award from each faculty under the terms that the student is a Member of Capricornia College for the entire academic year and has achieved the highest GPA of Credit or better while undertaking the equivalent of a full-time study load during Winter Term of the previous year, and Autumn Term of the current year.
Student Association Scholarships
The CQU Student Association offers a number of student scholarships for undergraduate students. These scholarships are awarded annually and are designed to recognise and acknowledge students whose activities have benefited fellow CQU students or others in the local community.
Certain criteria need to be met before a student can apply for these ccholarships. Nomination forms and information to assist in setting out of the criteria can be obtained from either the Student Association's Student Assistance Centre on either 07 4930 9656 or email association-service@cqu.edu.au, the Student Association's Campus Student Services Officers, or downloaded from the Student Association's website http://association.cqu.edu.au.
Applications close in August of each year and are awarded at the annual CQU Student Association Student Presentation Evening held in October every year.
Student Association Sports Scholarships
The CQU Student Association Sports Scholarship program offers financial support for student athletes while they are attending and representing CQU.
The goals of this program are to help CQU students complete their University education while still competing in their chosen sport and to improve the quality of CQU's sporting profile and representation in club and inter-university sport.
A combination of full scholarships worth $2000 each and half scholarships worth $1000 not exceeding the scholarship budget can be made.
Applications are to be received on or before Friday, Week 12, Autumn Term at 4pm. Commonwealth Learning Scholarships (CLS)
The CLS program was introduced in 2004 to assist with higher education costs for students from low income backgrounds, rural and regional area and Indigenous students.
Scholarships will be paid for up to four years. Both commencing and continuing students can apply for the two categories of scholarships within the program.
* Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarships (CECS) to assist with general education costs - $2000 per year (plus CPI adjustment).
* Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarships (CAS) to assist with accommodation expenses for those from a rural or regional area who must move in order to attend university as an internal student - $4000 per year (plus CPI adjustment).

Other equity grants
Equity Merit Scholarships (EMS) are available in 2005 to help continuing students in financial hardship. EMS will pay for prescribed textbooks and Student Association fees up to a total value of $1000. To be eligible students must have so far gained passing grades in their studies at CQU and must provide evidence of low income. The closing date for EMS is 28 January 2005. One-off equity grants to assist with education expenses are also available to students experiencing financial hardship. Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music scholarships and bursaries
CQCM Staff Prize - $300 and certificate
To be awarded to the graduating student, completing in minimum time, with the highest Grade Point Average (GPA), with a minimum of Credit, in one of the CQCM undergraduate programs:

Jennifer and Adrian Gibson Prize - $200
Awarded to the student who is considered to have the most promising voice for music theatre (Bachelor of Music Theatre).
North Jacklin Nissan Prize - $100 and certificate
Awarded to the best student of jazz at the Conservatorium (Bachelor of Jazz Studies).
Rotary Club of Mackay Prize - $100
Awarded to the best first year student (in any program) at the Conservatorium.
Ted Malone Prize - $150
Awarded to the student who has made the most outstanding progress (Bachelor of Music Theatre and Bachelor of Jazz Studies).
The Music Teachers' Association of Queensland Incorporated - Mackay Branch Prize - $100
Awarded on the basis of results and overall achievement in the area of keyboard.

Bundaberg Distilling Company Environmental Science Award - $500
Awarded to the CQU Bundaberg student studying on campus who achieves the highest percentage on first attempt in ENVR11011 Environmental Science A. The student must be 18 years old upon acceptance of the award. If more than one student achieves the same percentage then the prize will be split.
Bundaberg Distilling Company Science Award - $500
Awarded to the CQU Bundaberg student studying on campus who achieves the highest percentage on first attempt in CHEM11007 Introductory Concepts of Chemical Sciences.
