Course details
This course is both a practical introduction to digital video production and a critical examination of digital movies and the digital moviemaking 'process'. Practical work focuses on script development, storyboarding, camera techniques, sound, digital video editing and exporting to a range of formats. In addition to these conceptual and technical skills, this course provides students with an analytical framework for exploring the creative and cultural significance of digital movies --- mainstream and alternative, professional and amateur, off-line and on-line --- as a form of communication. Assessment involves the creation and critique of a short digital movie. NOTE: External students who enrol in this course will need access to a video camera and video-editing software such as Adobe Premiere or Pinnacle Studio. Access to a multimedia computer with an Internet connection, audio capabilities, a CD-ROM drive and a Zip drive is also a requirement for this course.
