TOUR19015 Research in Tourism

Course details

This course is designed to recognise the growing emphasis placed on the importance of research data and applications in the tourism industry as a basis for management, marketing and decision-making. While in the past the industry has suffered a dearth of even the most basic research information, this situation has been addressed by government agencies which now produce a large volume of secondary data. Additionally, some operators within the industry may seek to supplement existing secondary data with primary data collected by themselves for the more specific decision-making purposes of their operations. In this context, the course considers the nature of scientific research, the currently available sources of research data, and some of the techniques applicable to the conduct of small-scale independent research project.
