Course details

This course focuses on the distinctive challenges and responsibilities of making theatre for and with young people. It will begin with an investigation of children’s dramatic play, which is the source of all theatrical expression. It will proceed to examine the philosophies, acting and production styles, genres and techniques of theatre for young people. They will be applied and developed in the process of devising plays for infant and primary aged children. The course will involve practical research with potential audiences, theatrical improvisation and ideological critique of children’s literature. The outcome will involve public performances of group devised plays as part of the CQU Story Book Theatre Company.
