Program aim

The Bachelor of Jazz Studies (Honours) is part research and part practical in keeping with the mission of the CQCM to train informed performing musicians.

The degree is designed to continue the student's practical performance focus and at the same time extend their academic research capabilities.

The continued development of relevant performance skills, both solo and in ensemble, will be achieved by tuition on the principal instrument and a commitment to regular performances, both in workshops and in professional settings. Research will usually take the form of a musicological study with a focus on rigorous analysis and, where possible, the value of the study applied to performance either directly or indirectly.
