Faculty of Arts, Health & Sciences
The Faculty of Arts, Health and Sciences takes advantage of a unique mix of disciplines. The Faculty focuses its activities around people, their health, emotional and social well-being, and the quality of their work and natural environments.
Faculty undergraduate programs offer a wide range of study opportunities. Use of common course and plan (major) sequences across programs maximises the use of resources. Fields of study covered in undergraduate programs include:
Arts; Biomedical Science; Environmental Science; Health Promotion and Health Education; Human Movement Science; Nursing; Occupational Health and Safety; Psychology; Science; Social Work.
Interdisciplinary double degree programs in conjunction with other Faculties allow students to become specialised in more than one area. These include the Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Business that combines studies in a core business plan with a range of arts plans and specialities. Double degree programs in secondary teaching prepares students to teach across curriculum areas. Either a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Human Movement Science or a Bachelor of Science can be combined with the Bachelor of Learning Management (Secondary).
Postgraduate programs complement the Faculty's undergraduate programs in the following fields of study:
Clinical Nursing; Environmental Management; Humanities; Midwifery; Occupational Health and Safety; Psychology; Sustainable Development.
Undergraduate and postgraduate programs draw strength from the high level of research activity undertaken in the Faculty. As well as hosting three of the University's Research Centres; the Centre for Environmental Management, the Centre for Social Science Research and the Primary Industries Research Centre (Plant Sciences Group), the Faculty encourages regional engagement through a number of collaborative research partnerships. Research higher degree programs may be undertaken in the Faculty where supervisory expertise and appropriate infrastructure are available.
Faculty of Business & Law
The Faculty of Business and Law is one of CQU's largest faculties, offering an extensive range of programs. The Faculty ensures that the content of its programs not only satisfies the academic requirements for the respective degree, but that it also satisfies the entrance requirements of various professional bodies such as the Certified Practising Accountants Australia, the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia, the Australian Marketing Institute and the Australian Human Resources Institute, where relevant.
The Faculty offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees with specialisations in accounting and finance, human resource management, information systems, management and economics, marketing and strategic management, and tourism.
Business programs contain a practical emphasis and, for selected courses within programs, assessment provides for hands-on experience. The Faculty works closely with business and industry, fostering networks with the chosen profession and the community.
The Faculty of Business and Law brings together the many disciplines, which exist within commerce. Throughout the programs it is stressed that no single part of a business can exist in isolation but that all parts need to work together. The programs also place great importance on competing in an international business environment.
Faculty of Education & Creative Arts
The Faculty of Education & Creative Arts is committed to furthering the discovery and application of knowledge in education and the arts. A range of programs, specialising in adult teaching and training, performing and creative arts, early childhood, primary and secondary and language teaching are offered. Interdisciplinary degrees are also available with the faculty, renowned for the quality of its graduates within the education industry.
The faculty has a special interest in creating partnerships with community and industry with resource-based learning. Graduates from the Faculty of Education and Creative Arts enjoy one of the highest employability rates in Australia in teaching and in other related careers.
The Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music (CQCM) is part of the faculty. CQCM specialises in producing graduates of the highest quality in the area of music performance. Programs at CQCM involve practical experience working with professionals, some of the best in their fields. Offering sub-tertiary, diploma, degree, and continuing education programs, this specialist institution has developed a diversity of music programs unequalled in regional Australia.
James Goldston Faculty of Engineering & Physical Systems
The James Goldston Faculty of Engineering & Physical Systems prides itself on being an innovative provider of undergraduate and postgraduate programs and is at the cutting edge of investigating, developing and implementing new and innovative ways to optimise student learning. Many of our courses utilise Project-Based Learning (PBL) and many programs are available by distance study. The Faculty is committed to the continual upgrading of courses and implementation of new educational technology.
Study within the Faculty can be undertaken in the undergraduate areas of civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics and computer systems engineering and engineering technology; physics, building design, building surveying and construction management, or the postgraduate areas of maintenance management, process engineering & management and environmental management.
Undergraduate programs at CQU encourage learning based on experience and understanding of context. Employers appreciate the practical nature of the accredited programs offered within the Faculty and this is reflected in the excellent employment rates of our graduates.
Postgraduate programs provide career development opportunities for practicing engineering professionals.
The Faculty is home to two strategic research areas. The Centre for Railway Engineering (CRE) in Rockhampton which is Australia's only railway engineering research centre and the Centre for Process Engineering and Light Metals (PELM), based at Gladstone, whose research and development capabilities are aimed at meeting the needs of process and manufacturing industries in the Central Queensland region.
Development in the area of Sustainable Physical Systems, Energy and Asset Management research is currently being undertaken by the Faculty.
The James Goldston Faculty of Engineering & Physical Systems provides a stimulating and challenging learning and research environment within Central Queensland University.

Faculty of Informatics & Communication
The Faculty of Informatics and Communication is CQU's youngest academic unit, and is a vibrant, rapidly expanding educational facility that welcomes students of all ages and needs. It is the only faculty of its kind in Australia, and incorporates a diverse and innovative range of disciplines concerned with the information age including:
information technology; information systems; electronic commerce; communication; journalism; health & nursing informatics; aviation technology; multimedia; artificial intelligence; cultural studies; public relations; mathematics/statistics.
The Faculty offers an extensive range of programs from diploma level through to postgraduate and research higher degrees across a variety of campuses and learning modes, including by distance education. Highly qualified and dedicated teaching staff work with industry leaders to provide students with a 'real world' perspective that will give graduates a competitive edge in the employment market. The relevance of our degrees in the workplace is reflected by an excellent graduate employment rate - well above the national average. In 2004, the Faculty is expanding it scope of offering to include online public relations and bioinformatics.
