PHYS13164 Applied Physical Techniques

Course description

The purpose of this course is to allow students to present their understanding of the underlying theory and practical application of one or more techniques relevant to their area of project study or other professional expertise. The detailed format and nature of the project are to be determined by a supervisor appointed for each student. Content may include: a self-study approach to a topic not offered in the current semester (e.g. Quantum Physics II, Geophysical Instrumentation); a self-study approach to a topic of personal or professional interest to the student; a short experimental project; Whichever approach is taken, it should be treated as a project and have the same reporting and assessment style. This course aims to prepare students who are in the final year of their Bachelor of Science (Applied Physics) program for a design and/or research-based project which closely approximates that which occurs in industry. The project should integrate many of the technical components of the degree program, and also require them to plan, execute and report a project in a professionally competent manner, while developing their expertise in the project's discipline area.
