MBIO19004 Humans, Microbes and Disease
Course description
This course provides an introduction into the ecology of microbial pathogens of the human body. A systems approach is taken whereby each of the major body systems is surveyed for significant bacterial, viral, fungal and protistan pathogens. An ecological approach is overlaid on this systems approach such that the modes of entry, exit and of inter-host dispersal are considered. The role of host defences including the immune system and virulence factors including drug resistant strains are also considered.
