LOTE20015 English as a Second/Foreign Language III
Course description
Not offered in 2004
This subject aims to encourage ESL development and proficiency through content-based learning. The rationale is that students are encouraged to take as much responsibility for their own ESL learning as possible so that learning becomes increasingly self- directed and less passive. Second language learning through immersion education is seen to promote increased levels of acquisition and facilitate higher proficiency levels than traditional approaches to language teaching. Individual needs and deficiencies are targeted and weaknesses overcome by the specialised nature of the activities used and the ongoing nature of student-teacher interactions in class, group, pair and one-to-one situations.
