LOTE11008 Second Language Communication and Cultural Diversity

Course description

The course is designed to ensure that continuing tertiary learners of second language develop the skills to communicate confidently and effectively in a range of contexts. They are also supported in preparation for entry to the linguistic and cultural diversity of the target language community. The course is intended to complement and be studied in conjunction with LOTE 11007 Second Language Communication in an Education Context. Students will be presented with a range of communication settings and will encounter a variety of genre, language events and resources. Opportunity will be provided for students to negotiate meaning through communicative interaction. The aim is to facilitate development of skills required to engage in spontaneous communication. Accordingly, students will be encouraged to use language creatively to meet their own needs and aspirations.
