Course description
To be an effective teacher requires a combination of highly developed specialist knowledge and skills. This course is designed to help you develop knowledge and skills which promote principles of effective teaching and learning appropriate for beginning teachers. It is designed to provide a broad introduction to professional issues and skills involved in learning and teaching adolescents, especially in Queensland secondary schools (Years 8 to 12). Issues such as planning and preparation, communication (including basic skills of explaining, demonstrating, questioning, and reinforcing), teaching strategies, assessment, class management, evaluating teaching effectiveness and motivating students to learn are examined.
