Course description
Melodrama is one of the major aesthetic forms of Western culture. This course explores the influence of melodrama in the development and popularisation of film throughout the world in the twentieth century. It looks at the formation of gender identity through the themes of violence and desire, as expressed in Hollywood films, as well as films from other film cultures.
