Course description
This course is an introduction to the graphic-arts industry and the components of electronic document production. Students will obtain practical skills using the industry standard software Adobe InDesign to integrate text and graphics into layouts ready for printing. Fundamental design principles are explored in a detailed examination of Rolling Stone magazine, and other layout examples. Students gain an understanding of how to use layouts to communicate effectively, applying the principles learned in producing their own documents. NOTE: To study this course it is essential that you have access to a computer (PC or Macintosh) and the software, Adobe InDesign CS. The computer needs to be connected to a printer (colour or black and white); a CD-ROM drive; and a disk drive, such as floppy or zip. It is also essential to have access to the Internet as this is an online course.
