CHEM20064 Introductory Chemical Sciences

Course description

This course comprises the following topics: laws of chemical composition, electronic structure of the atom, bonding theories, intermolecular forces, periodic classification of elements, chemistry of representative elements; introduction to co-ordination chemstry; introduction to organic chemistry, nomenclature, isomerism; the chemistry of gases; acid-base equilibria and buffers, electrochemical cells and their application including corrosion, and various industrial processes. External students will be required to attend a residential school for this course. This course is only available to students in the Graduate Certificate in Science.
