This course examines using computers as research tools (for data and reference search and storage), and the descriptive and inferential technique employed by sociologists in analysis and interpretation of research data. Elementary statistical procedures are reviewed and students are introduced to more advanced inferential statistics (chi-squared test, t-test, AnoVa, and correlation) through the use of the computer-based Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Computer-based qualitative data entry and analysis (pattern of relationships among concepts) is also explained by using N-vivo (NUD*IST) software.
