This course has been developed specifically for first year Indigenous students at CQU. It is also relevant to all other students. The course combines a variety of personal and group reflection and discussion activities, to focus upon the relationship between culture, identity and learning. Processes and mechanisms for the creation, and affirmation or denigration of identity are examined within the context of contemporary society. While using a number of Indigenous and Western worldviews for comparative purposes, students' backgrounds and personal experiences provide the essential information for self-reflection regarding personal and collective beliefs, values and identity. Ways of affirming identity and promoting learning at CQU are identified and communicated to the broader university community. Indigenous and non-indigenous staff members will facilitate and tutor this course.
