This course provides a grounding in some of the scientific principles that are fundamental to a wide range of engineering disciplines. It will concentrate on: atomic and molecular properties; states of matter; electricity and magnetism; light and sound waves; and thermal properties. Emphasis throughout will be on fundamental relationships and on the quantitative valuation of situations of importance in engineering practice.
