ENEE13012 Introduction to Communications Systems

This course develops the basic concepts of telecommunications, examines the characteristics of common transmission media, aims to develop an understanding of the functions of signal processing tasks in analogue and digital communications systems, including the principles and basic technology of common modulation schemes, develops the basic mathematical skills and analysis techniques required for further study of telecommunications systems at a higher level. Students are expected to develop an insight into what future telecommunication networks and systems might become. Topics include signals, bearers, noise and bandwidth, Amplitude modulation, Frequency modulation, Television, Telephony and various communications systems, Transmission Lines, Electro-magnetic wave propagation and antennas, Digital communications, Optical fibre systems
