Through this course the student will develop an appreciation of the wide use and application of database systems to support an enterprise. The student will design and implement a small database application using Microsoft Access (or some other product). The course will cover the theoretical foundations that underpin contemporary database technology to allow students to appreciate potential problems with poorly designed and implemented databases. The important database language SQL is covered in sufficient depth to allow the student to appreciate its potential and limitations. An introduction is provided to database implementation issues, and emerging and legacy database technology.
