ACCT20047 Strategic Cost Management

On completion of this course students will be able to:

• appreciate the difficulties in setting goals of an organisation
• participate in the development of an organisation's mission statement
• understand the "value chain" for a firm's product
• identify the role of accounting in the value chain, in design, processes, packaging, choosing customers
• implement business process re-design
• implement Activity Based Accounting and other recent developments in MCS.

Topics include: Setting of organisation mission; Value Chain and the generation of profits; Role of Accounting in the Value Chain; Activity Based Costing and its relationship to BPR, JIT, TQM; Influence of the external environment and internal organisation.
