PHYS13069 Quantum Physics II
This course aims to give the student sufficient background
knowledge to be able to understand how features arise in simple
atomic and molecular spectra. After a discussion of identical particles,
the theory of one electron atoms will be developed from the motion of
a particle in a central potential. This will be used as a basis
to introduce the central field approximation for a treatment of
multi-electron atoms. The course will conclude with a semi-qualitative
discussion of diatomic molecules, their modes of excitation and
simple molecular properties.
