EDCU11027  Issues in Curriculum - Literacy I

Through a series of recently published journal articles students are encouraged to read and reflect upon the teaching of literacy. The course has a compulsory module which considers several issues in teaching literacy and then two elective modules complete the requirements of this subject. The elective modules include, reading comprehension, emergent literacy, children's writing, using children's literature, and children experiencing difficulties in reading and writing. In addition to the essay format for assignments opportunity is also provided for reports to be written on practical work conducted in the classroom. It is hoped that through the study of the materials teachers will also evaluate their own classroom practice in teaching literacy.
